Lazy Chef’s Take on Homemade Cooling Dog Treats “Meatsickle”

by Mary Lou on June 1, 2010

Here’s a homemade dog treat recipe I make for my dog for those hot summer days or nights.  These treats are really easy to make with very little preparation required. Great for the lazy chef!

All it takes is freeze-dried or dehydrated liver and water.  I collect and save all the crumbs at the bottom of the liver packages and use them in these treats.

  1. Take dehydrated liver and break it up into tiny pieces in a bowl
  2. Add water
  3. Add dehydrated liver crumbs
  4. Mix and pour into ice cube tray or Kong.
  5. Freeze .

Now pooch can enjoy a nice high-protein treat that is cooling to eat!  Extreme ugly points =yum yum for dogs.

*There are lots of brands of both dehydrated and freeze dried liver on the market.  Here’s one brand -Etta Says! Liver Treats that  was voted the Best Treat in CityDog Magazine’s Top Dog readers choice poll!  Available at Only Natural Pet Store (Shipping US, Can & Intl):

These look absolutely disgusting, but I’m sure that means Pru will love them all the more :D

I will definitely have to make some up! I’ve been looking for another frosty treat to rotate with Pru’s Ice Pups.

yuck, mmmmm. The nastier the better, I say.

I make a ‘meat slurry’ out of boiled down and blended chicken meat and bones, mix it with yogurt and peanut butter, and fill up the kongs to freeze.
