The Sock Toy -Part Deux

by Mary Lou on May 31, 2010

Here’s an eco-friendly  toy I make for my dog.  It is “reuse and recycle” at it’s easiest.

Very -simple concept.  I find a clean empty plastic water bottle and an old sock.  Of course, we advocate drinking tap water.  But it is easy enough to find an empty plastic water bottle around with or without a cap.  I shove it in an old athletic sock (any old sock will do) and tie off the end.  Et voila! Look how my dog can’t even wait for me to finish making the toy.  She loves the crinkle sound of playing with the final product.  I love the price and the re-use of materials.  It’s also really easy to find the materials.  So you can make quick toy solutions even while traveling with pooch away from home.

I make sure to watch her play though, to ensure she doesn’t actually break up the bottle or socks into pieces she could swallow.  I remove the toy if that happens and pick up any pieces.

Here’s the final toy.  It’s good as a pull toy as well as something you  can chuck around. I sometimes add treats in the bottle to make the toy that much more irresistible.

*Ed the Sock was not  harmed in the making of this post.

**One reader suggested using a stinky sock, that her dogs love them.  I don’t have any (ahem) so can’t vouch for that.
